graphite on paper The composition was inspired by Rubens's "Ascension of Mary to Heaven" in Brussels, which I had the chance to see in person. I had two intentions with the picture. One was to capture the power of his composition, creating a counterpart in abstract terms. The other to imitate the complexity of his painting, while attempting to push the boundaries of abstract complexity, within my style. As of September 2009 =ImaginaryRosse joined the project and will be helping us out with the weekly choices. While things have changed over time, the essence of the newsletter is still the same. The top left quarter has a gentle beauty that I find really attractive. The centre shares the beauty of the swirl but is a bit too fast for me and the top right seems awkward and jarring...like a conversation with someone you can't find common ground with.
Now there's a nice bit of waffle for you.
